I was never much into fashion, until I moved to New York. When you are constantly exposed to such amazing and unique styles – one can’t help but get inspired! That is one of the reasons why I love this city so much; you can wear pretty much anything, as long as you wear it with confidence. New Yorkers value individuality and hope to stand out from the NYC crowd. If I wanted to describe the style here with one word, it would definitely be edgy.

NYC is a melting pot of cultures, as well as one of the fashion capitals of the world. I have lived here for a little over two years now, and when it comes to style I feel that I have now seen it all. It is also fun to notice how people are so used to seeing different, weird and crazy looks that nothing really surprises them anymore.

I love those days when I have time to plan my outfit to look super chic. However, some mornings there is no time to even look into the mirror, and then there are those Sundays when I just can’t bother and end up walking into the grocery store in my PJ’s. And that’s totally fine here!

I have definitely become braver when it comes to my personal style and outfit choices, when I previously used to “play it safe” a lot. It is so much more fun to try new styles and not take it too seriously! For instance, when I see a great piece someone is wearing, I will ask the person where they got it from – and that is how it works here. Back in Finland, that was not common at all.

As an actress and model it is necessary to have the basics that you might be required to wear for jobs, auditions and castings. My wardrobe essentials include a collection of:

You need to walk a lot in NYC, so carrying comfy flats in your handbag is a must! Which also means that a large quality tote bag is essential. I often have to get up at the crack of dawn and will not be back home before late at night, so I have to plan ahead to make sure I have everything I need in my handbag.

New York style is about celebrating your uniqueness and personality – feeling good about yourself. You could do it with an elegant black dress paired with an edgy choker, or combine denim shorts with zig-zag pattern. Wherever you are, never be afraid to show your inner New Yorker!
